The Green Vector Biomethane Platform
Discover how The Green Vector platform helps decarbonise the economy, complementing the rest of renewable energies, as well as to the development of a circular economy.
Through a collaborative platform model, The Green Vector acts as promoter and driver of a set of plants that will produce biogas and biomethane, a renewable gas that is 100% similar to natural gas.
The Green Vector aims to boost the waste sector and promote a circular economy throughout the country with the active participation of all stakeholders in the process: composters and waste managers, farmers and livestock farmers, agri-food industry and municipalities of the different localities where the various projects are located. The plants promoted by The Green Vector will be connected to the Spanish gas system.
Why The Green Vector is the reference platform for promoting biomethane
The Green Vector brings together Enagás Renovable’s experience in the development and promotion of renewable gas projects, as well as Genia Bioenergy’s technology and capacity to integrate all the players in the waste recovery chain.

Biomethane situation in Europe
The production of biogas and biomethane in the European Union has increased considerably since 2015, mainly thanks to the commitment to renewable energies.
The European Union has recognised Spain as the third country with the greatest potential for its production, after France and Germany, as its technology is mature and competitive.
By 2022, the number of biomethane production plants in Spain has increased to five, while 2,326 potential biomethane production plants have been identified throughout the country.

Benchmark biomethane project platform in Spain
The Green Vector joins the drive of the Spanish Government and the European Union to transform the current model of organic waste management in our country, introducing the circular economy and the integration of the entire chain of production, management, transformation and use of recovered by-products.
The Green Vector platform will provide a decisive boost to organic waste management and renewable gas production that will help change the “map” of renewable gases in Spain.
Spain has great potential:
According to the study carried out by Sedigas, the production of this renewable gas from waste could reach 163 TWh/year, which would cover around 45% of the national demand for natural gas.
Its use would involve the commissioning of 2,326 specialised plants, which would mobilise an investment of almost 40.5 billion euros, equivalent to 3.6% of GDP, and would generate close to 62,000 jobs, both direct and indirect, associated with operation and maintenance.
In addition, it has almost 100,000 kilometres of gas grid ready to transport biomethane to the end consumer, allowing the use of this renewable gas using existing infrastructure.
